B. Federation of Training and Placement Officers, Pune (FTPOP) Training and Placement Officers of about 25 engineering colleges in and around Pune have come together and formed a common platform named as ‘Federation of Training and Placement Officers, Pune (FTPO)’ to deal with the common issues and concerns of the TPOs viz. allocating first day to a company, joint campus, some companies visit only selected colleges like VIT, COEP, PICT etc. This has happened for the first time in the history of engineering colleges in Pune. Five meetings have been conducted and various committees have been formed for the smooth operation of the Federation.
Nasscom – TPO Meet - A meeting was held between Nasscom (The National Association of Software and Services Companies) officials, Industry Officials (HR People) from IT as well as Non-IT and The Training & Placement Officers of various engineering colleges in Pune at Cummins College of Engg., on Wednesday, 25th March 2009. Dr Anand Deshpande, MD & Chairman of Persistent Systems Pvt. Ltd. has taken the initiative and appealed to the IT companies to conduct the Campus Recruitments in the month of December 2009 (i.e. at the beginning of 8th Semester) instead of June/ July 2009 (i.e. beginning of 7th Semester). The companies like TCS, Wipro, and Infosys etc. have principally agreed to follow the guidelines.
The likely benefits of this idea are – 1. At the background of recession, the companies will be in a better position to forecast their requirement of GETs in the month of December 09 than June 09. 2. It is found that most of the students after getting selected through campus in the first half of the seventh semester get complacent and lose focus from the academics.
A meet of NASSCOM, CII (The Confederation of Indian Industry) & SEAP (The Software Exporters' Association of Pune) officials, MCA Members and FTPO members is scheduled on 5th May 2009 in the premises of Persistent Systems Ltd. under the leadership of Dr. Anand Deshpande Representatives of NASSCOM, CII & SEAP will express their views on organizing the Campus Recruitments in the month of December 2009. Dr. Prakash Wani, Dean University of Pune will also express his views on the same on behalf of University of Pune.
C. PlacementsHighlighting Features of Campus 2008-09 1. Various adverse factors viz. global recession in the US, falling share markets worldwide, increasing inflation rate and oil prices etc., have affected the overall employment scenario for the year 2008-09 and caused reduction (30%) in the demand of engineering graduates. Compared to last year, there is a significant reduction (31.5%) in the number of companies visiting our campus. 2. Infosys selected 49 students from our college on Day 1. 3. Atos origin selected 11 students, Cap Gemini and Persistent selected 9 each while Tech Mahindra selected 8 nos. of students. 4. Highest package offered by S1 Services i.e. 4 lacs for IT and by TVS Motors i.e. 3.75 lacs for Non-IT. 5. In spite of the recessionary trend (particularly after September 09) all over the world the placement figure of our college reached to 200 and the placement process is still continued.

| 2. The adverse conditions are expected to prevail in the global market for the next 1-2 years and from the placements perspective, the year ahead i.e. 2009-10 is likely to be tougher than the year 2008-09 resulting into fewer number of placements. | | Special Comments: | | 1.
