Artificial Intelligence and Data Science Department

Global trend in technology adoption has indicated Artificial Intelligence and Data Science (AI and DS) as one of the preferred computing platform. Business models across industries are becoming more and more data driven paving the path for adoption of AI. Industry is relying on AI and DS like never before to understand their end customer and meet their needs.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is an integrated approach which enables computer or computer controlled robots to simulate problem solving and decision making process in a predefined context. The AI solutions are highly reliable and scalable. Proximity of approach to human intelligence makes it a preferred choice. AI systems help us manage, model, and analyze complex systems.

The field of Data science (DS) is about the collection, management, analysis and interpretation of large amounts of data with a wide range of applications. This field involves many different disciplines and tools, including statistical inference, domain knowledge (expertise), Machine Learning, data visualization, experiment design, and communication.

Advent of Industry 4.0 has showcased the synergistic integration of various established faculties of knowledge and technology. AI and DS play a very important role in this context. AI and DS being interdisciplinary branch, this program will focus on creating fundamental knowledge components constituting this domain. Students aspiring to be part of this interdisciplinary domain will benefit from the opportunity to learn and explore various cutting edge technologies. Keeping pace with the ever-changing context of technology, visionary leadership of PVGCOET & GKPIM, Pune has decided to introduce a full time, four year under graduate course specializing in Artificial Intelligence and Data Sciences (AI & DS) from Academic Year 2021-2022 with the intake capacity of 60 seats. The Department will be fully functional from A.Y. 2022-2023.

Faculty Orientation Program Organized:

    • Faculty Orientation Program on Big Data Analytics and Data Science was orgranized by AI&DS Department in association with Board of Studies Computer Engineering, SPPU Pune on 26th -27th December 2023.

Session by Industry Experts:

    • Cloud Computing Hands on Session for Third year students was organized on 16th February 2024 in association with Global Payments Inc.
    • Information Security expert session for Second year students was organized on 16th February 2024 in association with Global Payments Inc.

GUEST LECTURE:

1. On 25th November, 2023, Guest lecture by Mr. Mahesh Shinde from Wadia college of engineering on “Shading algorithms and applications of Computer graphics “was organized for SE students for the subject of Computer Graphics.

2. On 28th November, 2023, guest lecture was organized on the topic: “Operating System: State of the Art Review”

3. Guest lecture by Dr. Mrs. Chhaya Gosavi from Cummins college of engineering was organised on the subject OOP and overview and applications of C++ on 28/11/2023

WORKSHOP:

1. POWER BI

A workshop on Power BI  for the TE AI&DS class. The workshop was held from 09/08/2023 to 18/08/23, spanning over several days. The sessions took place from 8:00 am to 11:00 am, allowing ample time for learning and practical exercises. The workshop was facilitated by Prashant sir from Edu Plus, who brought expertise and industry insights to the training sessions. The Power BI workshop aimed to equip students with essential skills in data visualization and analysis, aligning with the curriculum’s objectives. Participants actively engaged in hands-on activities, learning how to create interactive dashboards and reports using Power BI tools.

2. AZURE Workshop

A workshop on Azure was conducted for the TE AI&DS. The workshop, led by Rashid sir from Edu Plus, was held from 11/09/2023 to 15/09/23, with sessions running from 8:00 am to 11:00 am. The primary objective of the Azure workshop was to familiarize students with cloud computing technologies and the Microsoft Azure platform specifically. Participants engaged in hands-on exercises, learning how to deploy, manage, and secure applications on Azure. Rashid sir’s expertise and industry experience added depth to the workshop, providing valuable insights into real-world applications of Azure

3.ONLINE WEB DESIGN WORKSHOP

A workshop on “Online Web Design” was conducted for the SE AI&DS class  The workshop took place on 16th September 2023, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. The primary aim of the workshop was to introduce students to the fundamentals of web design and development in an online

4. IOT WORKSHOP

A workshop on “Internet of Things (IoT)” was held for the SE AI&DS class. The workshop, facilitated by Mr. Dhanajay Patil and Mr. Raghav Narewadikar, Associate Software Engineers at BGSW, occurred from January 17th to January 19th, 2024, with sessions scheduled from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. The primary objective of the IoT workshop was to introduce students to the concepts and applications of IoT technology. Participants engaged in practical exercises and demonstrations to understand IoT devices, sensors, and data communication protocols.

4. HANDS-ON WORKSHOP ON NVIDIA JESTSON NANO

A workshop titled “Hands-On Workshop on NVIDIA Jetson Nano” was conducted for the TE AI&DS class during the academic year 2023-2024. The workshop took place on December 18th, 2023, starting at 10:00 AM. Dr. M. P. Atre served as the staff coordinator, overseeing the organization and logistics of the workshop. The primary objective of the workshop was to provide students with practical experience in working with the NVIDIA Jetson Nano platform for AI and machine learning applications. Participants engaged in hands-on activities, including setting up the Jetson Nano, deploying pre-trained models, and developing custom AI projects.

5. CPP CRASH COURSE

A workshop titled “CPP Crash Course” was organized for the SE and TE AI&DS classes during the academic year 2023-2024. The workshop, conducted by Mr. Tushar B. Kute, a Data Scientist and Researcher, took place on March 4th, 2024, from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PMThe primary objective of the workshop was to provide students with an intensive crash course in C++ programming language, essential for AI and data science applications. Participants engaged in hands-on coding exercises, learning fundamental concepts and best practices in C++ programming.

6. DESIGN THINKIN GUEST SESSION

A workshop titled “Design Thinking Guest Session” was held for the TE AI&DS class during the academic year 2023-2024. The session, conducted by Sheetal Atha, an IT Leader and Innovator, took place on March 7th, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. The primary objective of the session was to introduce students to the principles and methodologies of design thinking, essential for problem-solving and innovation in AI and data science. Sheetal Atha, with her extensive experience, shared practical insights and case studies to illustrate the application of design thinking in real-world scenarios. Participants engaged in interactive activities and group discussions to apply design thinking principles to various challenges.

7. FIVE DAYS YOGA AND MEDITATION SESSION

A five-day workshop on Yoga and Meditation was conducted for the TE AI&DS class during the academic year 2023-2024. The workshop, led by Ajay Waikar, a Certified Yoga Trainer, took place from March 11th to March 15th, 2024, with sessions running from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM. Ajay Waikar guided participants through various yoga asanas, breathing exercises, and meditation techniques. For the last two days of the workshop, sessions were arranged outside the college campus, on Talaji Hills and Okayama Garden, respectively. These outdoor sessions provided students with a serene and natural environment conducive to relaxation and mindfulness

8. INDUSTRIAL VISIT- PUNE SMART CITY DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION LTD

Aligned with the ambitious Smart City Mission of the Government of India, which aims to enhance citizens’ quality of life through economic growth and technological advancements, a visit was arranged for third-year AI & DS students to Pune Smart City Development Corporation Ltd. he visit took place on Wednesday, 06th March 2024, starting from 2:30 pm onwards. The TE (AI&DS) class comprised 47 students, accompanied by faculties including Dr. Minakshi P Atre and Prof. Vijayalaxmi A Kanade. The Pune Smart City Center Corporate Office, located at Sinhagad Road, was the venue for the visit. Mr. Aatmaram Magar from L&T Construction, Smart World & Communications, was the official person contacted for the visit. During the visit, students had the opportunity to learn about the various projects and technologies being implemented under the Smart City initiative. Overall, the visit to Pune Smart City Development Corporation Ltd was a significant learning experience for the TE (AI&DS) students, aligning with the objectives of the Smart City Mission.

9. INDUSTRIAL ORIENTATION ON DATA SCIENCE

An Industrial Orientation session on Data Science was conducted for TE AI&DS students on February 14th or 15th, 2024, lasting for 4 hours and facilitated by Mr. Yogesh Murumkar from Bharat Soft Solutions. The session aimed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the significance of data science in today’s technology-driven world. Key concepts including data collection, cleaning, analysis, and visualization were covered to enhance students’ foundational knowledge in data science Additionally, students were made aware of various career opportunities in data science, including roles such as data analyst, data engineer, machine learning engineer, and data scientist.

STUDENT ACTIVITIES:

1. Donation at PVG Sanstha

A visit to PVG Sanstha took place during the academic year 2023-24, sponsored by Budhani Bros and Tulsi Steel Bhandar. The event occurred on 16th October 2023, at the premises of PVG Sanstha. The primary activity of the visit was a donation drive. The donation drive aimed to support the educational and welfare activities of the institution. The generous contributions from Budhani Bros and Tulsi Steel Bhandar greatly benefited PVG Sanstha. The event showcased the positive outcomes of collaboration between businesses and educational organizations for the betterment of society.

2. Meetup at Salvation Army.

In the academic year 2023-24, a meetup was organized at The Salvation Army orphanage, sponsored by Budhani Bros and Tulsi Steel Bhandar, on 16th October 2023. The event aimed to provide support and companionship to the children residing at the orphanage. Various engaging activities were planned to uplift the spirits of the children and create a positive atmosphere. The meetup facilitated interactions between the volunteers and the children. The meetup highlighted the importance of community involvement in uplifting underprivileged sections of society. The event received positive feedback from both volunteers and children, indicating its success in achieving its objectives.

3. Actively donating blood.

Students donating blood is a commendable act that contributes significantly to healthcare initiatives. The donations typically take place on campus premises or in coordination with local blood banks. Overall, student involvement in blood donation serves as a testament to the power of youth in making positive contributions to society’s well-being.

4.Students participating in hackathon.

In the academic year 2023-24, here has been a noticeable surge in students participating in hackathon competitions organized by various colleges. These events serve as platforms for students to showcase their innovative ideas and technical skills. Typically, hackathons span over a day or a weekend, challenging participants to collaborate and develop solutions to real-world problems.
