TEAM SQUADRONE: OFFICAL AEROTHON TEAM

Showcasing our Achievements: Participating in Premier Drone Competitions

We are committed to engaging our students in highly regarded competitions that challenge and develop their STEM capabilities. We proudly participate in several esteemed events, including the SAE India’s Aerothon, the All-India Autonomous Drone Development Competition (ADDC), the Drone Challenge by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Hyderabad, and the TechnoXian Drone Challenge.

The SAE India’s Aerothon is a competitive event focused on drone technology, where participants design, build, and fly drones that meet specific criteria. This challenge tests participants’ skills in engineering, aerodynamics, and robotics, emphasizing innovation, technical proficiency, and practical problem-solving in a real-world context.

Our participation in these competitions has been incredibly fruitful. Last year, our team achieved an impressive AIR-41st rank in Aerothon’23 competition amongst 120 teams from all over India. This platform provided our students with invaluable opportunities to hone their skills in coding, engineering, and more. Additionally, it fostered essential soft skills such as teamwork, communication, and problem-solving.

These competitions have been rewarding for both our college and our students, igniting a passion for drone technology and equipping them with the skills and confidence necessary to excel in STEM fields. We are excited to continue our involvement in these dynamic and educational events, supporting our students as they explore, learn, and evolve with the technologies of today and the discoveries of tomorrow.

Our Commitment to Student Innovation: Supporting Drone Development

At PVG’s COET, we are dedicated to nurturing the innovative potential of our students by providing robust support and resources for their projects. We take immense pride in our drone development team, which has demonstrated remarkable skill and creativity in preparing for national competitions such as SAE INDIA’s AEROTHON.

Understanding the financial demands of cutting-edge technological projects, we initially provided the team with a grant of ₹60,000, in A.Y.2022-23. This funding was crucial for acquiring essential, high-cost components such as advanced sensors and precision flight controllers, which are integral to the drone’s sophisticated performance. As the project progressed, and to ensure our team remained at the forefront of technological advancements, we allocated an additional ₹57,000, in A.Y.2023-24. This continued support reflects our commitment to fostering practical skills and enabling our students to bring their innovative ideas to fruition.

Moreover, recognizing the importance of competitive exposure in enhancing technical expertise and confidence, we also took on the responsibility of covering the registration fees for both Aerothon’23 and Aerothon’24. This not only supports our students financially but also motivates them to focus entirely on their technical development without the burden of extra costs.

Our support for the drone project underscores our institution’s dedication to promoting hands-on learning experiences and supporting our students’ journeys toward achieving national recognition in technology and innovation. We are committed to investing in our future leaders and pioneers, ensuring they have the tools and resources to succeed.

SAEINDIA AEROTHON – UNCREWED AIRCRAFT SYSTEM (UAS) DESIGN, BUILD AND FLY CONTEST. The system requirements are developed to align with real-world Uncrewed Aerial Vehicle (UAV) requirements and provide a healthy competition among teams.

SAE Aerospace Forum is organizing AeroTHON 2024 which will be the 4th edition of the competition for students. The primary focus of the competition will be on developing design, build and piloting skills of Uncrewed Aircraft System (UAS) to prepare them industry ready for the emerging market. As part of AeroTHON 2024, students undertake a full design and build cycle of an Uncrewed aerial vehicle meeting specific mission requirements, culminating in a final fly-off event.

The contest is planned in two phases: –

  1. a) Phase – 1: Design Report & Oral Presentation
  2. b) Phase – 2: Flying Competition.

The teams must submit a design report of their UAV in Phase – 1, adhere to the contest design rules and guidelines and make a presentation to the jury. The top 20 teams from the phase – 1 will qualify for the phase – 2 of the contest which requires the teams to build an Uncrewed Aircraft System and successfully complete a payload drop mission during the flying competition. Top 3 teams will be selected as the winners of this contest. Universities/Institutions can nominate any number of teams as long as they meet the team formation requirements listed in this document.

Aim:

To provide a real-life engineering exercise to undergraduate and graduate engineering students. The contest has been designed to expose the students to the real-life work environment of engineers in the industry.

In this contest, students will perform trade studies and make decisions to arrive at a design solution that will meet the mission requirements and conform to the defined configuration limitation and build a flightworthy UAV.

In a nutshell, AeroTHON provides an opportunity for the students to experience the complete design and build cycle of a UAV that meets the specified mission requirements and a flight demonstration in the flying event.

Objective:

  • To inculcate innovation mindset among the student community in emerging technologies like Uncrewed aerial vehicles (UAV).
  • Incubate and nurture skills and capabilities of aero design in young minds and prepare them towards Atmanirbhar Bharat in critical aerospace technologies.
  • To provide a platform for Aero-passionate students to demonstrate UAV design expertise.
  • To help develop the next generation of entrepreneurs.
