Welcome to the Department of Printing and Packaging Technology

The department was established in 1985 by our Founder, Principal, and Director, Dr. Pa. Bha. Kulkarni.

Thirty-five (35) batches have passed out from this department. The alums successfully work in print design, package design, print production, converting operations, the ink industry, paper and paperboard industry, security printing, currency note press, and many other areas. The field is vast, and the scope is enormous. The curriculum covers all aspects of graphic design, print media, and packaging and interdisciplinary courses like Computer, Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Information technology, Artificial Intelligence, IoT, and 3D Printing.

The growth of the packaging industry is almost at the rate of 22-25% per year. Today, the primary packaging materials are paper, wood, metal, glass, aluminium, foil, and plastic. Due to the growing awareness towards a sustainable future, the department is undertaking many recyclable and reusable innovative materials such as seaweed plastic, bagasse paper, jute paper, bioplastic, and their study. Looking at the future scope of Printed Electronics, the department organizes many sessions and workshops. The curriculum incorporates almost fifteen courses on Packaging Technology from the Second year to the Final Year. The department encourages many projects on printed electronics, color management, innovative package designing, and product innovation.

Department of Printing Engineering

Printing Engineering Department was established in the year 1985 with undergraduate course. The Department has sanctioned intake of 60 students. PG Course in Printing Engineering started in 2009 and Post Graduate Research Centre in 2011. The department has qualified, experienced and dedicated teaching staff having PG qualification. Department has well equipped laboratories, with Pre-press, Press, Post-press, Testing and internet facility in each laboratory as per the requirements of SPPU and AICTE. Department emphasizes on effective teaching learning process with excellent teaching learning environment. The department has good association with eminent persons from both industry and academics. The department has recently started BE Honors Program in Advanced Packaging Technology. The syllabus of this Honors Program caters to recent developments in the field of packaging such as IOT, Smart Packaging, and Sustainability in Packaging and Brand management in Packaging. The inclusion of various subjects in the field of packaging will open up many avenues to students in the packaging and printing industry thus improving the employability of the students. Program Educational Objectives:

The Printing and Packaging Technology graduates shall

1. Evaluate and adapt to the rapidly evolving advancements in pre-press, color and design, printing, and packaging industries.
2. Design and integrate innovative business processes with a strong focus on delivering customer satisfaction in their professional roles. Implement eco-friendly printing practices, emphasizing energy and resource conservation and reducing carbon footprints.
3. Contribute to research in emerging areas of printing and packaging technologies.
4. Develop and optimize systems to minimize costs and enhance productivity in commercial printing and packaging industry.

Program Outcomes:

• Engineering Graduates will be able to:

1. Engineering knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.
2. Problem analysis: Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences
3. Design/development of solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.
4. Conduct investigations of complex problems: Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.
5. Modern tool usage: Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modeling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.
6. The engineer and society: Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice.

Association of Printing Engineering Students (COPE)

Circle of printing Engineers (COPE) was formed in the year 1996. COPE organizes many activities, such as, organizing guest lectures, industrial visits, co-curricular and extracurricular events, social activities etc. throughout the year. COPE maintains student’s library in the Printing department which consists of reference books, seminar reports and project reports for reference.

Following activities are conducted during last three academic years

Various curricular, co-curricular and extracurricular activities are organized for students through Circle of Printing Engineering (COPE). Prof. Swati Dutt is working as COPE Staff Coordinator.

1. PrintEra 2026, a two-day event organized by the Department of Printing Technology in collaboration with the Circle of Printing Engineers (COPE), took place on April 24^th and 25^th, 2026.
