Department of Information Technology’s ACM STUDENT CHAPTER, PVGCOET & GKPWIOM, Pune

An ACM student chapter is started by the department of information technology in the academic year 2022-23. An ACM (Association for Computing Machinery) student chapter is a student-run organization that aims to promote interest and knowledge in computer science and related fields among its members and the wider community. The purpose of an ACM student chapter is to:

  • Provide a forum for students to discuss and explore topics related to computer science, such as programming languages, algorithms, data structures, artificial intelligence, and computer networking.
  • Offer opportunities for students to engage in research and projects related to computer science and technology.
  • Organize workshops, seminars, and other educational events to promote the development of technical skills and knowledge.
  • Provide networking opportunities with other students, faculty, and industry professionals, which can lead to internships, jobs, and collaborations.
  • Promote diversity and inclusion in the field of computer science, and encourage participation of underrepresented groups in technology.

The purpose of an ACM student chapter is to foster an interest in computer science, provide opportunities for growth and development, and promote the advancement of the field through education, research, and community engagement.

Activities Conducted:

1) Introduction to DevOps Webinar Report

On 5th of August 2023, The ACM Student Chapter of PVGCOET & GKPIOM have arranged an online webinar on google meet platform for DevOps Enthusiasts which includes the workshop also. The purpose of this webinar is to gather the attention of young enthusiastic minds towards the seamless collaboration between software development and IT operations, fostering efficiency, automation and continuous delivery to accelerate innovation and enhance business outcomes. The webinar began with the warm welcome address by Sahil Kulkarni (Vice-chairperson) and guest introduction by Tejas Khamkar (Treasurer).


2) Resume Building Session

The ACM Student Chapter of PVGCOET & GKPIOM have arranged an Offline workshop on resume building for young enthusiastic minds. The resume building Session conducted by Mr. Tushar Pawar sir, a corporate trainer, and image consultant, was a highly informative and engaging event aimed at providing valuable insights into the art of crafting effective resumes. A resume is a vital tool in a job search since it provides us with a page or two to highlight your best and most relevant abilities and attributes. The session commenced with a warm welcome by Sushmita Chaudhari, a prominent member of the ACM Chapter, who extended greetings to all the attendees and set the stage for the informative session. Srushti Mahajan introduced Mr. Tushar Pawar, highlighting his extensive experience in corporate training and image consultancy. His background in the industry and expertise made him the ideal guide for the session. The Head of the IT Department (HOD), Dr. S.A. Mahajan sir, extended a warm welcome to Mr. Tushar Pawar sir, presenting him with a bouquet as a token of appreciation for his presence and valuable contribution to the event.


3) Technical Talk Session on GSoC & Internships

Event conducted by Siddhesh, a final-year IT student and Google Summer of Code champion in 2022 and 2023 and Rohit Bagal, a seasoned speaker, navigates through off-campus internships, spanning Salesforce,holding certifications in diverse domains and honored as an ISRO 2021 apprentice. Siddhesh highlighted the benefits of contributing to open source, including skill enhancement and building a professional network. Siddhesh discussed various technical stacks, how to initiate open-source contributions, and recommended resources for development. Rohit also offered guidance on resume building, coding skill development, and strategies for applying to internships through multiple channels. He highlighted specific internship opportunities at ISRO and DRDO and discussed workshops and live sessions available for skill enhancement.



4) Start-up & Entrepreneurship Workshop

The event is a Start-up & Entrepreneurship Workshop organized by the Department of Information Technology in collaboration with the IQAC Cell IT Department, ACM STUDENT CHAPTER, and Eduplus Now Learning Systems Pvt. Ltd. It aims to provide attendees with valuable insights and tools for navigating the world of startups and entrepreneurship.

Speaker: Mr. Staneley, a Leadership & Startup Training Expert, will be sharing his expertise.

Workshop Highlights:

Explore the startup ecosystem and entrepreneurship landscape.

Gain essential leadership strategies crucial for success.

Receive practical advice for overcoming entrepreneurial challenges.

Engage in interactive sessions and Q&A with Mr. Staneley.


5) SIH Guidance Session:

The SIH (Smart India Hackathon) guidance session by a winning team VEDAVISION was organized to provide valuable insights and guidance to aspiring participants of the Smart India Hackathon. Team was consisting of Harsh Ekbote, Dheeraj Jadhav,Harish Bapat,Amar Gaikwad ,Sameer Jahagirdar and Aarya Gandhe. That was a 2 day event in which speakers guided 3rd year and 2nd year students. The event featured a team of winners from a previous edition of the hackathon, who shared their experiences, strategies, and tips for success.

Activities Conducted:

Technical Talk Session on Recent Trends in IT by Mr. Tushar Desai (Director of Engineering at MasterCard, India)
Mr. Tushar Desai delivered the talk on the topic “Recent Trends in Information Technology”. Mr. Tushar Desai spoke about the virtual reality, augmented reality, and artificial intelligence and how these technologies are transforming various industries. He also talked about recession and how to survive in this situation. Mr. Tushar Desai advised students which are the recent trends in the Information Technology and which are important in the industry.


2) Conference & Journal Research Paper Writing Workshop by Dr. Dipti Patil (Associate Professor)

Dr. Dipti Patil conducted session on research paper writing. She guided regarding how to choose the topic, how to write the paper according to standard rules and in concise manner and how to publish the research paper. She built the thinking approach amongst the students for writing research paper. The importance of contribution in the research community was explained by speaker. Participation certificates were given to the attendees.


3) Coding Competition: “ClashOfCodes”

PVGCOET’s ACM Student Chapter organized coding competition “ClashOfCodes” on 8 May 2023 at 10.00am to 12.00pm at department of information technology labs. The coding competition aimed to promote and recognize coding talent among students. It provided an opportunity for participants to showcase their problem-solving abilities and programming skills. The competition was open to second year IT students. Participants registered for the event through google form. The response was encouraging, with 50 students. The top-performing participants were recognized and awarded with cash prizes and certificates. 1st rank awarded with cash prize of Rs.1000 and certificate, 2nd rank awarded with cash prize of Rs.500 and certificate and 3 rd rank awarded with Rs.250 and certificate. Prof.Dr.S.A.Mahajan (HOD at Department of Information Technology), Prof.S.S.Dixit and Prof. S.G.Kamble presented the prizes to winners.



4) Startup & Entrepreneurship Workshop

The Startup & Entrepreneurship Workshop, led by Mr. Suresh Umap, is scheduled to take place from May 8th to May 11th, 2023. It is organized by PVGCOET’s ACM Student Chapter specifically for BE students.
